The dark make-up creates a contrast between the pale skin and contributes to the dark frame of her hair. this all sticks to the conventions of this genre of music. Emphasis on her eyebrow piercing also shows the style sub-cultures that tend to listen to this type of music.
I think our CD cover needs too keep the eerie feel that this one does and keep to the conventions as this is what the audiences want.
Another Evanescence album cover which applies to out chosen theme is 'The Open Door'. This shows Amy Lee at a huge open door which could apply to the Alice In Wonderland story where her size is continuously changed after eating various foods. The image is again tinted slightly blue which makes Amy Lee look pale which is appealing to people who prefer a gothic lifestyle. The patterning on the door itself matches the design of the writing and is Celtic/gothic. The dress Amy Lee is wearing is similar to the more modern versions of gothic victorian dresses.
Ideas For Our Album Cover
We decided to investigate a few ideas into how we could make an effective album cover with a strong theme. One of our ideas consisted of an edited image of us in our costumes which we are using for our video. we thought this may be too easy and investigated further.
My favorite idea was using the original drawings:
I think these pictures show how the original book was in fact, still quite dark and gothic whilst being a children's publication. We thought about using these as a basis for our image worked well and as one of our group does art we decided to have Zoe Lloyd draw the above image and incorporate the cheshire cat in the same style. I f this proves to difficult we were going to take a picture of us in this arrangement and have the picture traced so it is still in the same style as the old drawings.
